A new year brings with it a need to re-focus on how best to serve our farming customers.
After observing both feed industry acquisitions and mergers by our competitors, the animal feed offering in the South West has shrunk significantly giving us good reason to look now, more than ever, at our customer’s needs. From a personal point of view we continually try to promote complete independence through all aspects of the supply chain, this is a very important part of our own business and one that we are very proud of.
As a true family-owned and family-run company founded on the corner stones of REAL service, REAL quality and REAL value for money it is even more important today to focus on these values. They are often talked about within the trade but I feel that few are able to prove these statements.
In a very testing dairy and ruminant sector, we need to listen to our customer base and have to convert logical and theoretically correct methods into practical on-farm solutions for each individual producer while accepting that one size does not fit all. There is also a requirement to show austerity and a review of continual investment. As a business our obvious reaction, given the length of the ruminant sector downturn, is to tighten the belt and navigate our way through the uncertain time to ensure that we are best placed to kick on when the sector improves. We have no doubt it will, just when would be nice to know!
Our poultry side of the business continues to grow in a market that seems to be holding its own at the moment and with our on-farm team and continued investment in this area, hopefully, once again we are able to prove ourselves by maximizing farm output whilst showing real interest in each of our customers farming enterprises.
We feel that through over 50 years of industry commitment and an efficient company structure, we are well placed to continue to offer an holistic approach for the long term. Keeping the trading area honest and promoting customer output to ensure that they are viable and productive for future generations is to our mutual benefit. Across all sectors, our main focus for 2016 is to be on farm to help and advise while bringing energy and enthusiasm to the table when it is most needed.
With a first class on-farm team of advisors backed up by an enviable operational team and a real continual progression plan, our business is well positioned to offer the most professional, honest, and traditional relationship to the customer base.
We look forward to our own challenges ahead, which we will meet head on, together with the challenges of our customers, focusing on creating a stronger partnership and foundation within a very interesting and testing environment.
